Our founder, Joel Hurren, brings over a decade of investing experience, having invested in smaller businesses in Canada, Europe, and the USA on behalf of leading financial institutions, most recently as a Partner at a leading independent investment firm.

We are authentic, reliable, and are lifelong learners. We will immerse ourselves in the business, taking over day-to-day operations while maintaining and investing in the legacy of the brand.

We have travelled across the world and invested with smaller companies for a decade (yes, Joel has spent more time on airplanes than he would like to admit!). As a result, we have seen what exceptional looks like and we firmly believe that people are the foundation for exceptional businesses. Financial output is important, but to really understand a business, you have to understand its people and its culture.

Salty Dog Industries has assembled a hand-selected Board of Directors and Advisory Board consisting of industry experts, experienced entrepreneurs, and seasoned operators.

A little more about Joel.

Joel has over a decade of investing experience, investing in smaller businesses in Canada, Europe, the UK, and the USA. He has lived in both Canada and the UK and completed his Master's in Biotechnology from the University of Toronto. Joel has travelled extensively to diligence businesses and meet with operators and investors around the world and firmly believes that trust, transparency, and authenticity are critical traits in investing.

Joel is the proud father of one daughter and plays an active role in the local community as Co-Chair of a local daycare.
